Our office uses state-of-the-art dental equipment, including intra-oral cameras, Panorex X rays, and other diagnostic tools to assess and treat your dental needs.
A lifetime of health, comfort, and function of teeth and oral tissues is within your reach. The greatest deterrent to regular dental care is the fear of pain and fear during dental treatment. We offer our patients a variety of pain relievers and sedatives, according to individual needs and desires.
Novocain (local anesthesia) was designed for one purpose, and it does this purpose well. It eliminates pain, but it does not eliminate the tension and anxiety associated with dental treatment.
Upon request, we can provide Nitrous Oxide (an inhalation sedative). It is breathed in with oxygen from a nosepiece. It gives you a relaxed, detached feeling, free of tension and anxiety. You do not go to sleep. After completion of the procedure, the effects usually go away within a few minutes.
Dr. Dreelin can also prescribe sedative “pills” to take before your appointment to help you relax. A drug like Valium works very well for dental procedures. If prescribed, it is necessary to have someone drive you to and from the office.
This sedative does not take the place of Novocain, but it is used along with Novocain.
If you decide a relaxant is necessary, Dr. Dreelin will give you a prescription for your next visit to our office. If you decide at a later date you would like to be relaxed for your visit, please call our office and have a phone number of a local pharmacy available for us to call in the prescription.
It is also very important to eat a meal at least 1 hour prior to your dental appointment. If you have any further questions, please call our office at 757-727-7726.
We've taken the fear, anxiety, and pain out of dental anesthetic injections.
 The WAND
We know that some patients get more nervous than others do at the mere sight of a needle and syringe. That's why this office now performs anesthetic injections with a revolutionary system called "The WAND."
It doesn't look like a syringe. It doesn't feel like a syringe. The WAND allows injections that do not numb the lips, face, and muscles of expression.
Whether injections make you nervous, The WAND helps us provide a more effective anesthetic delivery, and the onset of anesthesia is often faster. You're more comfortable throughout the procedure, and we may be able to use new techniques, so you won't experience the lingering numbness of your tongue, lips, and face.
A More Pleasant Dental Experience The WAND is an excellent example of our efforts to bring you the latest dental technology and to help all of our patients have a pleasant, positive visit to our office. If you'd like to know more about this remarkable new system, feel free to ask us.
